Family Photography

My studio family sessions are usually fine art style, which means dark backgrounds, vintage props (if any at all) and smart outfits. However, this is your session, so they are completely able to be tailored to your tastes and requirements for the final look, so your art will look perfect in your home.

Don’t worry if you usually feel awkward in front of a camera, I am happy to give any poses and prompts that I think will draw the best expressions for your photos and I also encourage including candid interactions in your session to really reflect who you are as a family.

A non-refundable deposit of £99 is to be paid upon booking to secure your provisional session date, and covers studio session time with an experienced photographer as well as use of any outfits, props, or other studio items. This deposit will be taken off your chosen image collection.

FAQs

  • The best thing about studio family portrait sessions is that they can be taken all year round, although I usually book my outdoor sessions for April-August when the weather is a bit warmer. It's always best to get in touch with me as soon as you know you'd like a family portrait session (at least 1-2 months in advance) as my diary does get very busy. Between my weekly newborn and child studio sessions and my summer wedding bookings, I want to make sure I have a session space available for you.

  • This type of session can take anywhere from 1-2 hours for an outdoor session and around 1 hour for a studio session. This is due to the fact that outdoor sessions will be spent naturally interacting and playing with each other, and possibly walking around the location as I photograph you. As the studio session is inside in one location the time is shorter, but in both circumstances I hope to create a friendly and relaxed environment for you all and so will never rush your session. I have trained in the art of lighting and posing, so you can be confident I will only ever pose you in a flattering way. I have tea, coffee, and snacks in the studio to help entertain your family while we're creating gorgeous photos of you all, and I also have a few outfits to for women and children to choose from.

  • Some people choose to have their hair and make up done before their shoot, although this is entirely up to you as I can enhance your natural features in post-processing too.

  • If you'd like to include any personal items, feel free to bring those along. But other than that, just bring yourselves!

  • If there is someone not being photographed who wants to take a few behind the scenes photos, they're more than welcome (as I love to see and post those on my social media too!), but make sure that those BTS photos do not impede on the shots I am being paid to take of you.

  • As many adults, children or pets as you like, unless otherwise stated (there’s sometimes a maximum number of people for my mini sessions, but I will advise you in advance). Just make sure to let me know how many people are being photographed and everyone's ages so I am aware in advance as it will change my posing workflow.

  • I always say it is best to stick to neutral colours without any big patterns, prints or logos. When we are discussing your session I can point you in the direction of my Pinterest which has plenty of inspiration for your family outfits. For your outfit(s), I do have plenty of gowns in the studio to choose from, which can be colour changed in post-processing if you require a slightly different colour for your session. I also have a few outfits for children, ranging from newborn size to aged 10.

  • After your session I will choose the best 15 or so images with some basic editing to the colours and background etc, but no full skin retouching yet. Around a week after your session I will invite you back into the studio to look through your final images and discuss which 5 or 10 you'd like to purchase, or if you’d like the full gallery.

  • Once you have chosen your favourite images, your final edits should take around 1-2 weeks. During this time I will be retouching your hair, skin and gowns by hand myself to make sure everything is perfect for your final images. I will also order your prints, which take up to 2 working days, and your wall art which takes up to 10 working days to be delivered.
